GI Procedures for Diagnosis and Treatment
Comprehensive General GI Care in Houston, TX
At Core Medical Physicians, we offer comprehensive general gastroenterology care focused on diagnosing and treating a wide range of digestive and liver conditions. Led by Dr. Omar Khan Jilani, MD, a board-certified gastroenterologist and internist, our Houston gastroenterology practice provides personalized, evidence-based GI care designed to help patients feel better and live healthier lives.
Dr. Jilani specializes in the evaluation and management of common gastrointestinal concerns such as acid reflux, abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), and chronic liver conditions. Using modern diagnostic tools and minimally invasive procedures, we work to identify the underlying cause of symptoms and create individualized treatment plans tailored to each patient’s needs.
Colonoscopy
A colonoscopy allows your doctor to examine the inside of your colon using a flexible, camera-equipped tube. It is used to screen for colon cancer and polyps and to investigate symptoms like rectal bleeding or chronic diarrhea.
EGD (Upper Endoscopy)
An EGD uses a thin tube with a camera to examine the esophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine. It is performed to evaluate acid reflux, ulcers, and upper abdominal pain.
Video Capsule Endoscopy
This test uses a small, pill-sized camera that you swallow, taking thousands of pictures as it travels through your small intestine. It is often used to detect bleeding, tumors, or inflammation that’s hard to reach with regular endoscopy.
Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
Similar to a colonoscopy, but this procedure examines only the lower part of the colon, the sigmoid colon and rectum. It’s used to screen for colon polyps and colorectal cancer and to evaluate symptoms like rectal bleeding.
Liver Elastography (Velacur)
A quick, non-invasive test that measures liver stiffness using painless ultrasound technology. It’s used to assess liver fibrosis and fatty liver disease without the need for a liver biopsy.
Hemorrhoid Banding (Rubber Band Ligation)
A non-surgical, in-office treatment for internal hemorrhoids. A small rubber band is placed around the hemorrhoid to cut off blood flow, causing it to shrink and fall off.
Not Sure Which Procedure You Need?
That’s okay. Our gastroenterologists will work with you to understand your symptoms and recommend the right test or treatment. Whether you’re managing a chronic digestive condition or experiencing new GI symptoms, we’re here to help.
