EGD (Upper Endoscopy) in Cypress, TX
What It Is
Often called an upper endoscopy, an EGD (esophagogastroduodenoscopy) uses a thin tube with a camera to examine the esophagus, stomach, and upper part of the small intestine.
Why It's Done
- To evaluate acid reflux (GERD), ulcers, or upper abdominal pain
- To diagnose conditions like gastritis, celiac disease, or Barrett's esophagus
- To take biopsies or stop bleeding
Before Your Procedure
You will need to fast, typically for 6-8 hours before your procedure, to ensure your stomach is empty. Your doctor’s office will confirm exact timing and any medication adjustments needed beforehand.
During Your Procedure
You will receive Monitored Anesthesia Care (MAC) so you will be comfortably asleep throughout the procedure. Most patients breathe on their own during MAC sedation; the anesthesia team determines the safest approach for each patient. While you are sleeping, the endoscope is gently passed through your mouth into the upper digestive tract. The procedure is typically quick, usually around 5-15 minutes.
After Your Procedure
You will be monitored for a short recovery period after sedation before being discharged with a driver. Mild throat discomfort is common and usually resolves within a day.
Self-Pay Price
$1,000. An EGD + Colonoscopy same-session combo is available for $1,500, which includes pathology and anesthesia for both procedures. Procedure cost can additionally include a facility fee, please call the clinic for more information.
